Kamea and I wanted to see Harry Potter on the big screen but it had finished its Wellington run. I had purchased some Super 8 gear and had to pick it up in Paraparaumu so it didn’t seem too much further to go to Levin to see the Potts. It was a ridiculous reason to go to Levin and therefore the whole day was brilliant.
I picked up Kamea after she put me off for a surf (good excuse). We sped North running a little late. Our first stop was Te Horo to pick up a hitchhiker who wanted a lift to Otaki so he could buy cigarettes. Commitment. We made it just in time to get tickets, buy popcorn and see the Where the Wild Things Are trailer. Who is not excited by this?

I enjoyed the Potts. It was long but really I wanted it to be longer. It felt like so much was skimmed over. The revelation of the Half Blood Prince’s identify was a little flat and the death seemed fast and anti-climactic. Still, I cried.
After dropping off our second hitch-hiker in Otaki (popular place) we pulled into Pekapeka for a refreshing and rejuvenating stand on the beach.

I can’t decide if I regret buying that shirt. Part of me likes it because it is so dorky and part of me shivers in horror because… er… it’s so dorky. It was the only clean thing that day so there wasn’t a choice.
These are stick marks not tyre marks in the photo but there were cars driving and parked on the beach. I still can’t quite get used to that. It just seems wrong. Kapiti Island was looking beautiful. I’ll have to make it across there one day.

Paraparaumu was kinda weird. It’s a beach town that’s growing new suburban appendages. Kevan showed me how to use the gear. It’s all in top notch and I got more than I thought I was going to. He and his wife were happy that his Dad’s gear was going to someone who was going to enjoy it. Look at all this gear! A projector, camera, splicer, viewer and film and glue and other stuff. All in the original boxes with instructions and receipts. And all for NZ$126. Amazing.

My new Super 8 gear!
After stocking up on picnic supplies we headed back to the beach for some sunset watching.

A beautiful end to a fun day.

A dorky photo of me so Kamea doesn’t feel so exposed.
